  1. I chose Duane Michals for the style of my photos.

  2. Duane Michals is an American photographer. He often incorporates texts to his photos to reflect emotion and philosophy. He has received 4 awards for his work in the photography world. Lastly, his notable work includes: Sequences, The journey of the spirit after death and Chance meeting.

  3. What drew me to his work was the photos themselves, as they can be complex or simple but still, he makes sure they have a deeper meaning behind them using the text he adds below them. I have always loved how photos turn out in black and white, and his work surrounds that concept.

  4. He often creates a series of photos, rather than making the decision to use one to tell that story. He includes captions, poems or reflections of the photos to add context to the work. He uses lot's to double exposure, blur effects and direct flash.

  5. Some elements of art and principles of design that are used the most in his work includes: Value, with the way shadows show up with the black and white filter on them. Space is also used, as he uses multiple exposures. Core principles of design he includes are movement, with a blur effect and emphasis as he focuses on the subject more than the background of the photo.

  6. I believe I did my best to do this style justice, with the way I used different angles to get the effect I wanted. Using a angles, it was easier to get that slight blur and bright flash to the photo. Turning the photos black and white with a darker setting, also brings more drastic brightness to the face of the subject, and darker shadows for more value.
